CUMNOCK

Cumnock is one of the smallest towns in the Cabonne shire with a town population of 295 (or 550 including the farming communities too), located about 315km west of Sydney and just 45mins north west of Orange. Cumnock has a wide main street flanked by vibrantly painted telegraph poles, a large shady park with a BBQ and picnic tables, plus a children’s playground displaying a super-heroes painting and an ‘Old MacDonald had a Farm” mural.

Cumnock is a keen sporting community where Wallaby legends like John White, Tim Gavin and Ross Reynolds were born and bred. The swimming pool, tennis courts, Bowling Green, golf course, squash court, bike track, cricket and football oval, showground and pony club are popular facilities used by everyone in the community. The Playgroup, Family daycare, Cumnock Village Pre-school and Cumnock Public School are well attended by the local kids.

Cumnock’s viability is reliant on the rural sector and much of the farming area is used for wool production, sheep and cattle, and grain growing. Small businesses include the General store, the take-away café/Newsagency, the Bowling club, AgNVet and stock transportation. Although this is a small town, there is a dedicated and very strong community base, many voluntary people work together to keep this rural town ticking.

Big events to attend are the Cumnock Agricultural show in March, Stock horse Camp draft in mid March, the Eurimbla 16km Bike ride and Mulga Bill 24km bike ride last weekend in July.

There are Victorian style residences and Heritage Country churches. Collectors of Vintage Tractors, radios, Kerosene lamps, clocks and telephones reside here. Cumnock is a scenic rural area and very popular for the bicycle enthusiast.

Cumnock is centrally located for the tourist with attractions less than an hours drive including the Dubbo Western Plains Zoo, Parkes Radio Telescope, Wellington caves, Angora rabbit farm and Burrendong Dam/ Arboretum. Tours are available upon request of the Cumnock Transmitter Facility of the 1937-opened ABC/2CR radio tower.

Come ride with us in Cumnock.
